The annual Charity Fair is coming!
On the March 29 from 4 PM to 5:30 PM, the Community Service Club (CSC) will be hosting their annual Charity Fair! This is an event where a variety of charity organizations and SMIC-I clubs will gather together at the concrete area for these purposes:
(1) To promote charity programs within and outside of SMIC-I
(2) To encourage individuals to voluntarily participate in community service
(3) To educate the school community on social issues and charity opportunities
(4) To connect individuals in the SMIC-I community with a broader network of charities
(5) To collaborate with various charity organizations to make our society a better place
Members of CSC will be divided up into six different groups covering six different topics: human trafficking, orphans, medical care, gender equality, animal welfare, and media distortion. Each of the groups have prepared bake sales or exciting activities related to their social issue to educate and entertain students, teachers, and parents. Other than CSC, Cookies for Kid (CFK), Environmental Club, Shanghai Paws, and Cancer Awareness Project (CAP) will be joining the event with their own activities. Similar to last year, CSC has also invited several charity organizations in China to come to SMIC-I. The organizations that will be joining the Charity Fair are as follows:
– Paw Pals Animal Rescue (PPAR)
– Shanghai Riding for the Disabled
– Renpin Charity for Visually Impaired Persons (RP-I)
– Heart to Heart
– Shanghai Sunrise
– Community Center Shanghai
– Stepping Stones
– Clara Non-profit DIY
This year, the CSC is hosting another event in addition to the Charity Fair, a walkathon. With all the donations and profits donated to the Shanghai Wheelchair foundation, CSC aims to encourage students, parents, and teachers to come and participate in this event. Here are the simple instructions:
1. Each participant finds sponsor(s). Sponsors may include anyone the student wishes to ask for donations.
2. The participant collects money from the sponsor by making a commitment to walking a predetermined distance.
3. Each participant finds sponsor(s).
For instance, the participant may ask, “I will walk (number) of laps. Are you willing to pay (number) RMB for each lap I walk?”If the commitment is met, the participant receives the money.
4. On March 29th, the participant goes to the track, signs up, and pays the money received from the sponsor.5. The participant walks the number of laps promised.
Here are some Q&A for more information!
