Join the Chemistry Club today!

Did you know there is a Chemistry Club in our school? Formed two years ago, the Chem Club is now advised by Ms. Ou, a Chinese Track Chemistry teacher. Michael Cai (CT11A), who shares a strong passion for Chemistry, serves as its President and is looking to expand the club. Currently, the size of the club is small, comprising of seven Chinese Track students. This year, Michael would like to invite more SMIC-I students to the club to create diversity and interactions between SMIC-I and Chinese Track students.

To introduce his club, Michael shared his plans on some interesting Chemistry-related events, including a Chemistry tutorship and learning Organic Chemistry. Through the Chemistry tutorship, Michael would like “to invite some former AP Chem students or current AP Chem students to tutor sophomores…all the tutor hours would be counted as community service hours. Also, if those students are good at Chinese, they can also help freshmen from CT.”

In addition, Michael explained his plans for another initiative — Organic Chemistry: “What I’ve experienced is that, after AP Chemistry, many students really think that they want to explore more [about] Chemistry, but the school does not offer the course. That’s why I would like to form a club so students who are really passionate can continue exploring and learn and discuss together.” Thus, students who are interested in other fields of chemistry can join the club and study more about the subject together with other students in the club.

It is Michael’s wish that more students take the opportunity to pursue their academic interests in Chemistry through his club. He hopes “students who love Chemistry can join together and enjoy some fun at solving these challenging problems,” especially those from SMIC-I.

If there are any students interested in this club, you can contact Michael directly through his WeChat or email.
