Think+ creates Shark Board to promote school spirit

Think+ is a club that seeks to promote school spirit through creative events. Last year, the club organized the Pillow Fight and Paint Twister for all students to participate in and enjoy. Unfortunately, many students are still not aware of the purpose of the club because it has only pushed for a few events over the past years. “We are a pretty cool club, but people don’t know much about what we do,” expressed member Timothy Lin (10C).

To solve the issue, Think+ launched the Shark Board. On October 10^th, it began utilizing the board located in the high school locker area to encourage and communicate with the student body. Every morning, a member of Think+ will write an encouraging message on the board. Esther Tak (10C), Secretary of Think+, explained, “We put the board for people to get more involved with the school community. It is [also] a new way for us to communicate with the students.”

According to Mrs. Bethany Bates, director of Student Affairs and the advisor of Think+, the Shark Board was originally conceived as a way for students and teachers to write announcements. However, many were not familiar with the function of the board. But now, through Think+, teachers and students are welcomed to use the board. The club’s President Raphael Lee (12B) confirmed, “The Shark Board is not just ours to use. Anybody can use it for a good purpose.”

Many students responded positively about the idea. “I think the board reflects creativity and school spirit,” responded Dean Hu (11C). Natalie Man (12B) also said, “I like it. It’s actually really pretty. It shows that our school has an aesthetic sense and I feel proud about the board.”

By transitioning its focus from solely hosting events to other innovative strategies like the Shark Board, Think+ is getting more involved in the students’ lives, and is well on its way toward achieving its main goal of bolstering SMIC-I’s school spirit.
