2023 SMIC Sports Day: Class Chant

Sports day has always been known to be a day when athletes can shine through their bright athletic performances, and when homerooms do activities together such as the Tug O War. This year’s sports day in SMIC is special in the sense that al the homerooms are required to come up with a chant and a clothing theme to walk in a parade before sports day starts. There was a variety of different styles as each homeroom walked pass by.

The T-Shirt design by ET11A was especially remarkable as their homeroom teacher’s face was printed at the back of the T-shirt. The class named themselves after the last name of their homeroom teacher, “Crain Train” since the two words rhyme and go well together. The class even brought a blue tooth speaker to project the sound of an actual train, and the class chanted “One two three Crain Train!” before the parade of their class ended.

This event is meaningful in the sense that it can bring people together: it can ignite a team spirit in the homerooms. People that are not familiar with one another were able to become friends with one another through identifying themselves as a part of a class.

A class chant can also motivate students to be creative and innovative in the process of choosing a clothing theme and a name for the class. Students are able to cooperate with one another in the process of creation, and feel proud after the parade.
