Bamboo by Sophia Shan

Giant fuzzy caterpillars

Stretching out from tall robust spires

Gently lit aglow

Under layers of sun

Loud, instrumental music trafficks through the forest

Clashing with everything

For what would you rather listen to

Than crickets striking their limbs against each other

Than faint strains of birdsong

Than the youthful song of light green bamboo leaves

They lean

Feathery,

Softly, smoothly spiked,

Striped and luscious

Into the bare stone path

“Welcome, stranger”

The sun is only reaching us
