“Sixteen in 10 Minutes or Less & Hoodie” dazzles the audience
Curtains! Lights! Set the stage! Let the play commence. An exhilarating feeling filled the whole auditorium floor once the curtains opened as the play began. All the small chatters between anxious parents and the teachers dwindled. A sudden shuffling of the feet from the right came as a group of actors scuffled in from backstage in formation repeating lines in unison. At that moment, the audience became immersed.

The second school wide performance the Drama class and club had to offer was a huge success. Instead of normal three act play, the drama crew went above and beyond to perform sixteen different plays in two acts. The performances themselves offered a variety of sketches and monologues giving each type of drama a proper ode. The actors participated in several different acts and it is certainly impressive how they play and memorize the roles and lines of several characters. It is a testament the amount of effort and preparationthe actors have to execute the performance well. From attending both the dress rehearsal and the actual performance, the actors were well-prepared and able to adapt to any situation on stage. They did not feel flustered by the large audience on the fateful day of the performance.

The drama program in SMIC-I has grown rapidly over the years. Now with two school wide performances under the belt, the school finally recognizes the talent that SMIC-I has in the school of acting. From when I took drama in 10th grade, Mrs. Ma always fantasized about an updated auditorium and a school wide performance afterschool. With those opportunities, she is maximizing it to its utmost capability. “Sixteen in 10 Minutes or Less & Hoodie” reflects the passion she has to teach and cultivate a drama that the school can enjoy.
