Eric Nam makes his comeback with a romantic serenade
As summer comes, Eric Nam, a Korean-American artist, launches a romantic standalone digital single “Runaway” on May 8. This is the first song that Eric releases after he launched his work at the end of October last year.
Although “Runaway” has won neither awards nor nominations yet, the single has met public approval due to its melody. “Runaway” is not anywhere near being dominating or mind-blowing; however, its relaxing hip-hop beats convey a refreshing vibe that attracts listeners. Another interesting fact about “Runaway” is that the song does not contain a bridge, causing it to flow without any major changes in rhythm from the prelude to the outro. Perhaps it is Eric’s sweet vocals or the peaceful flow of the music–whatever the case, the song leaves listeners with joy at the end.
“Runaway” tells a story about a boy who wants to run away with his girlfriend to a place where they will not be disturbed by the outside world. In the music video of “Runaway,” Seon Hwang, a female Korean model, plays the role of Eric’s girlfriend. A retro texture and mood are incorporated into the short clip while shots of the couple quickly flash across the screen. The song conveys a peaceful mood, which allows the fans to visualize the sweet moments of the couple.
This filled-with-love single can be contrasted with Eric’s previous singles “I Don’t Miss You” and “Miss You.” In “Runaway,” Eric changes his style from sentimental to rational, creating a different atmosphere for his listeners.
In fact, the lyrics of “Runaway” is co-written by Eric and an American singer Lauv. Other artists such as Jay Kim, Jackson Foote, Emma Lov Block, Michael Pollack, and Flow Blow also participated in the writing process of the single.
“Runaway” is a perfect song to put on when summer quietly arrives. To watch the music video, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rczMbtw8sCw.
