Tobias Rehberger’s first solo exhibition takes place in Shanghai

Nowadays, plenty of museums located in Shanghai provides foreign artists who are willing to show their talents and distinct artistic movements the chance to present their exhibitions and galleries. From March 23th to May 26th, the Rockbund Art Museum, also known as the first contemporary art museum established in China, is presenting the first institutional solo exhibition of well-known German artist Tobias Rehberger. The name of the exhibition, If you don’t use your eyes to see, you will use them to cry, takes after the artist’s determination to convey different types of visual and auditory artworks to viewers around the world.

Tobias Rehberger is a contemporary artist who uses an array of media to create art primarily focused on visually-rich environments. In his exhibition, Rehberger creates large-scale sculptures, architecture and conceptual arts, using different types of installations to express his thoughts about social norms and cultural displacement. According to the curators’ explanation on the official website, the title of this exhibition has a underlying message: “Truism that expresses the connection between how we choose to see the world and the importance of this decision in defining the quality of our experience and engagement with it.” In this exhibition, Rehberger creates a butcher shop, a teahouse, flower arrangements, neon-signs and a pixel series to show the difference between the cultures of different countries and provide visitors with a multi-sensory aesthetic experience.

This is one of the most unique ascpects that Tobias’s Rehberger’s exhibition presents, and many visitors like this exhibition because of it.
