Chinese Track elementary school presents “Classic Reading and Teaching Show”

Chinese track elementary students held a “Classic Reading and Teaching Show (经典诵读教学展示)” on March 28. The show consisted of choirs, traditional dances, chamber orchestra performances, and more. In the morning, the students learned about the history and culture of Chinese poetry, and in the afternoon, they dressed up and performed in the first-floor auditorium of middle high school (MHS). The school auditorium was filled with parents eager to watch their children on stage. Students were dressed up in either the school uniform or Chinese traditional clothing to further immerse themselves in Chinese culture. Many students memorized parts of or an entire poem and recited their parts. During the performances, parents were seen recording their children to capture this memory.

The following are some shows that were presented during the event. CT Grade 4 performed “If There Wasn’t Li Bai (如果没有李白)” that conveyed the importance of a poet. CT1D performed a musical named “Disciple Rules of Etiquette (弟子规礼仪乐堂)” that showed the Chinese discipline. CT2C recited the poem “Spring Rain (春夜喜雨).”

Lucy Wei, the Vice Principal of Chinese track Elementary School, expressed that by reading, delivering, singing, and dancing, students gain a clearer understanding of traditional Chinese culture. This concert was a teaching activity for everyone to learn, and students to artfully show their parents and teachers their study achievements so far. Through the performances, the goal of sharing ideas was accomplished. Vice Principal Wei appreciated the way that the students recited their poems loudly, and clearly, and she also enjoyed the dances. She further stated that this show was mainly focused on first and second grade students, who performed a number of dances and poems, whereas Grade 3, 4, and 5 grade each performed one. The students presented excellently and showed great teamwork, and Vice Principal Wei thinks that this show was very successful.

This show let parents to see a new side of their children. The students also had an opportunity to learn about Chinese culture, and it was a meaningful experience.
