BTS- The pride of Korea

BTS is one of the most influential musical groups worldwide. While some remain unexposed to the music of this K-Pop boy band, most people who have heard their billboard-topping songs become avid fans of BTS. However, BTS was not successful from the beginning. The members overcame hardships. When they were still trainees they had to practice dancing and singing over ten hours per day. Some also criticized and humiliated BTS as hip-hop idols. Therefore, it was their hard work and efforts that allowed them to become so talented and popular. BTS demonstrates how one’s background should not prevent them from pursuing their goals and dreams.

Three student fans were interviewed about BTS songs and dance moves. “Sometimes I want to do a move that they do, and I do it how I think they would do it, but it comes out totally different,” said Michael Lee (12C), explaining his struggle when attempting BTS’s dance moves. “The difficulty for me is that I don’t understand Korean. So how could I sing along [with] something that I can’t pronounce?” added Timothy Lin (11C). Many fans find BTS different from other bands because of their humble background and their palpable team chemistry. A member like V was born into a poor family. Originally a farmer, he continuously expressed how lucky he was to have the opportunity of becoming an idol. Other members have also expressed their amazement at their level of success. “I think that what makes BTS stand out is their team chemistry. If you look on several talk shows, there are other celebrities that have worked with BTS [who] say that BTS’s teamwork is very notable,” remarked Timothy. Michael added that BTS has “deep messages in their songs and concepts”, while Max Zhang (11B) believed that the secret behind BTS’s success was “mainly because of their humble background. Other groups, such as Blackpink, came from really rich families.”

Michael remarked that BTS is different from any other performing groups because “they give us a peek to their personal life a lot and…they teach [us] about the pressures of being an idol and pressures of life in general, and that we shouldn’t be too overwhelmed by it.”

Another BTS fan, Fiona Peng (10C) said, “They inspire me a lot…They inspire me to be a better person and their lyrics sometimes make me feel happy when I am depressed.” Fiona also added that “after knowing BTS, I felt that K-Pop was so amazing”.

BTS recently had a world tour with a ticket cost of $3,850 dollars, which sold out within the first few minutes.
