STUCO holds Shark Fiesta 3.0

The third annual Shark Fiesta was held on September 22 of this year after being postponed earlier due to rain. A kind of party normally held on the concrete outside of our main building, this event provided music and fun to complement the widespread promotion of clubs. Along with amazing food, multiple students performed on stage with the acts ranging from singing to stand-up comedy.

Many clubs prepared food and drinks, along with activities related to their club. The Computer Club offered the chance for students to try on VR headsets and experience different simulated realities. “I believe this event is a very good opportunity for clubs to advertise their specialty, in our case, computer club’s Virtual Reality experience,” said Computer Club President Nicholas Yu (12C).

For performances, students from the Singing Club sang, students from independent “crews” danced, Matthew Yang (10A) also directed a magic show, and Fawaz Labeeb (12B) performed a one-man standup comedy show. “Shark Fiesta was an amazing opportunity to throw away some of the terrible puns I had kept to myself for many years,” said Fawaz, “The atmosphere was amazing and Shark Fiesta only gets better every year!”.

Unlike last year, Student Council (STUCO) successfully combated previous audio issues in performances and music by renting speakers. “I was amazed at the stage with [the] lighting and speakers,” said Esther Tak (10C). “And overall, it was nicely organized—thanks STUCO!” Another student, Brendan Wang (10B), said, “It was really good. The speakers were a good bonus (be)cause like the speakers used to be like really trashy and no one could really hear it well, but [this year] they rented it, and it was a lot better.”

However, some students were upset with the lighting issues. “Lighting could have been a lot better especially around the individual booths, [be]cause it was unattractive [and] didn’t really invite you to come closer,” Brendan said. Despite the technical difficulties, with all the changes and improvements made by STUCO, Shark Fiesta 3.0 was a major success.
