Celebrating the Day of the Death

In a remarkable display of creativity and cultural appreciation, students from the Spanish class at our school have come together to showcase their artwork on the first floor celebrating Día de los Muertos (Day of the Death). The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is an important holiday in Mexican culture, honoring and remembering loved ones who have passed away. Each year, it is celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd.

Walking through the first-floor lobby, various artworks catches people’s eyes. All the students’ arts depict traditional symbols like sugar skulls, marigold flowers, and butterflies, which are all associated with the Day of the Dead. Next to the artworks, altar has been set up, adorned with photographs, personal items, and favorite food and drinks of the students’ departed loved ones. This altar represents the essence of the Day of the Dead and serves as a space for reflection and remembrance.

various student artists have contributed their own unique pieces to the exhibition. Detailed paintings, drawings, and sculptures reflect the theme of the Day of the Dead, incorporating skeletons, calacas (skeleton masks), and other traditional symbols. These imaginative pieces capture the essence of the holiday while showcasing the talent and creativity of SMIC students.

This remarkable display of art not only showcases the talent and creativity of our students but also promotes cultural understanding and appreciation among our school community. It serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring and remembering our loved ones, regardless of cultural backgrounds.

Don’t miss the chance to experience this eye-catching exhibition on the first floor. It will be open for the remainder of the week, allowing students, teachers, and visitors to take a look at these artworks to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
