The Nueva Exchange Program opens applications to anticipating students

Nueva is a long standing exchange program in SMIC-I. Every year numerous students from both English and Chinese track show interest in this opportunity.

The exchange program consists of a unique learning course: traveling to various places in San Francisco to open students to a new culture and to learn in a different environment. This is not only a good opportunity for students to learn more about the world and become global citizens, but it is also a good experience for the teachers. Ms. Nancy Cheng, who has been working in this program for 3 years, said, “The program last year went very smoothly for all of us, and the students showed a good reaction to the experience. This was a good experience for the students to use their holiday to understand more about the outside world.”

Last year, the Nueva Exchange Program students traveled to San Francisco to explore the culture. A total of 10 students and 2 teachers went to America to take classes in The Nueva School. They also resided with American families to further experience the American lifestyle. Not only did the small group get a  a taste of the American culture, they were also able visit numerous tourist attractions and famous universities in the area they stayed in. The group was able to enjoy the views of Bay Area, the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as visit Stanford and Berkeley. Haowen Tan (8C), a member of the exchange program, said, “It is a nice program that has been planned thoughtfully [and] I feel happy [that] I joined the program last year.”

Although the actual exchange is a few months away, the sign ups begin now. This year, the students will visit San Francisco again, and the teachers are confidnet that participants will have a great time.
