Seniors voice their opinions on amended privileges

Monday the 27th of March marked the first day that senior privilege–being able to go outside of campus for lunch–was in effect. Seniors had been waiting months and months for the day to come, and our anticipation created high expectations. Sure enough, on that Monday, a large number of seniors went out for lunch, dining at restaurants in the school area, ranging from Yolota and Monday.

However, this year, the rules for using the senior privileges weren’t as simple as before. On the morning of that Monday, SA Director Mrs. Bethany Bates held an assembly explaining the regulations surrounding senior privileges. One of the most concerning rules was a new rule that called for the students to wear their uniforms each Monday in order to obtain their privileges for the week. Many voiced their opinions on this. Elyssa Tsai (12A) expressed that “it is kind of unfair because previous years, they didn’t have to wear their uniforms to have senior privileges.

Another aspect of the senior privileges that saw complaints included the rule that seniors could only go out for lunch two times a week. “Even though we can only go out twice a week, I think it makes us appreciate our senior rights more,” said Elyssa Tsai. While some like Elyssa are okay with this limitation, others think that it is unfair to have so many restraints on a simple privilege. Robin Jeon (12A) claimed that she feels like “there should be at least three days given to seniors each week to go out. It’s the only privilege we have.”

Despite the new regulations imposed upon seniors and complaints from some students, some feel the freedom that is given to us as seniors should be appreciated, even if it isn’t as much as had been expected.
