School raises funds for Art for Charity program
Staring from December, SMIC-I held a donation program for the Art for Charity. On each floor a table was set up on which boxes of stuffed bears were displayed. Each box of the stuffed toys were sold for 100 RMB, and money fromm the bears was sent to the children living in poor conditions in the isolated, rural, and mountainous regions in China.
SMIC-I has been organizing the “Sweet Humanity Charity Fair Art Exhibition” since 2004. This Art for Charity donation was a chance to train students to become “Person of Character” and “Global Citizen,” two of the important aspects of the SMIC-I ESLRs, through giving love and sharing warmth. Thus, the donation program not only assisted the children who were living in poor conditions, but also prompted SMIC-I students to be conscious of sharing care and love to needy people around the world. This makes the event even more meaningful.
Every year the school receives approximately 270,000 yuan through the charity sale which provides warm coats for over 700 children in the isolated areas. Moreover, the money raised in the charity sale also provides nutritious lunches for more than 102 left-behind children and childcare for 7 orphaned infants, impacting their lives. Additionally, the money raised through this donation program enabled a number of students to continue on in their high school education without financially burdening their families.
Additionally, students in SMIC-I also participate in charity performances in addition to directly donating money. The Art for Charity performance has been an annual event since 2014. This year, the performance underwent a series of eliminations and rearrangements before the final show. All the money paid for the tickets would be donated. Over numerous years, the Art for Charity donation program has become a tradition of SMIC-I. This year, the Art for Charity performance was held on December 8, accompanied by the hope of all students, teachers, and parents in the school to bring aid to the needy children living in distant areas.
