Here is the college acceptance list for the class of 2019

Currently, the seniors have only about 2 months of school left before graduation. Therefore, the college decision results are almost all out.

Jacqueline Shen (12B) is a senior who got accepted by Amherst College, Carnegie Mellon University, Tufts University, Tsinghua, Brandeis, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Smith College. She plans to attend Amherst College because she believes “Amherst is very focused on undergraduate education and offers small class sizes along with an open curriculum.” Jacqueline said that she “plan[s] on majoring in biology” and that she is “very excited to attend Amherst College.”

Joy Chang (12A), who is also a senior this year, got accepted by University of Sydney, Australian National University, University of Hong Kong, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon University. She is still waiting for a few schools in Hong Kong, California, and Singapore. She said that she plans to go to Berkeley because “there is more flexibility in changing majors.” She also expressed that “I’d like to explore more in the first two years of college before declaring a major. I got in to Berkeley as a biology major, but I might do another major or minor in computer science.” Because Berkeley was one of the top colleges that she wanted to go, Joy feels very excited about going to Berkeley.

In terms of advice the seniors want to give to the underclassmen, Jacqueline Shen (12B) said, “Don’t procrastinate on your essays. Know how to package yourself to appeal to admissions officers. Do something unique for your extracurriculars to stand out. Look into some liberal arts colleges, they can be very good options for you, especially if you are considering applying to grad school.” Meanwhile, Joy Chang (12A) comments, “Don’t worry, senior year will be way more relaxing than what you’re experiencing right now. Also, start spending more time with your friends, family, and people you love, because in one year most of you would be leaving Shanghai.”
