Bruno Mars serenades Shanghai

The 24K Magic Tour, Bruno’s worldwide tour of his most recent album, was scheduled to perform at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai on the 28th and 29th of April. Tickets for Bruno’s concert sold out in mere minutes, proving Bruno Mars’ popularity in Shanghai. Tickets were in such high demand that Bruno even booked another night to spend with Shanghai, this time on a Monday night (the 30th).

The extra concert proved no less exciting than the previous two, with Bruno setting a festive mood with his hit-song, “Treasure”. Through his amazing dance moves and subtle hit movements,  Bruno convinced us all in the first few minutes that for that one night, Shanghai truly was his treasure.

As the night flew by, Bruno Mars and his crew continued to impress the crowd with funky pelvic sorcery, impeccable footwork, and mesmerizing music both from 24K Magic and from previous albums. About halfway through the show,  Bruno Mars flipped the switch. Literally. What turned from an exciting, dance-filled light show quickly turned into a more heartfelt, dimly lit ballad as Bruno poured his emotions into a few more emotional songs. His “When I Was Your Man” made Shanghai reminisce about lost times, and Bruno’s new “Versace On The Floor” quickly turned the mood around once more- this time with Bruno crooning meaningless nothings into the mic before putting the crowd into a dreamy spell.

Alas, nothing good lasts forever- the 24K Magic Tour quickly came to an end as the curtains began to close. However, the crowd was in outrage as they realized the tour had ended. Bruno hadn’t even performed his most popular song (in China) yet- “Uptown Funk”. Cries of encore rang out before the ends of the curtains had even grazed the floor, and the audience was quickly relieved as the opening lines of “Uptown Funk” began to ring out as the curtains flew up once more. Bruno Mars’ performance had audience members in pure and utter shock- for example, Jessie Wu (10B)‘s first time at a Bruno concert left her in awe. “I bought merch(andise) to fill the hole you left in me? I am in love with you? Please love me back?” posted Jessie on her WeChat moments, along with a video of Bruno playing the electric guitar.
