The Theater in SMIC: The Purpose of Theater Art
It if often heard that people who like theater art are terrible at relatively more practical fields like math, science, and technology. There shouldn’t be any correlations between these being good at STEM and being fond of theater art. Others think that theater art should only be reserved for people that are extroverted.
Theater Art not only allows students to learn how to cooperate with one another in a big production, but it also allows both extroverted and introverted students to express themselves through words and actions to demonstrate their potentials.
SMIC has a theater class and a theater club to complete two big productions each school year, one production per semester in November and April. Rehearsals are mandatory especially during “Technical week” when dress rehearsal and technical rehearsal take place. Both the actors, prop makers, and the technicians work really hard to make the production ready-to-go and polished.
The two performances we’ve done last year were “When Bad things Happen to Good Actors” and “One Stoplight Town” as shown below
The audience was very encouraging, and that boosted the confidence of our actors more which convinced them to participate in future productions too. The encouragement from the audience made students feel recognized and appreciated on a big stage.
Many students have made new friends in this club too, everyone gets along well together like a big family that work towards the same goal of creating a performance that can make everyone proud.
