What’s there to eat in Shanghai?

Shanghai could be a challenging city to tackle when it comes to food, with there being so much diversity and internationality. However, do not fret, as the cultured Mr. Hedges from the literature department has offered his two cents on this topic!

Q: Where are you from?

A: The Midwest, United States; specifically Ohio.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: I can’t decide on just one, but I do love DongBei food, dim-sum, thin crust pizza w/o too much cheese, and Japanese cream puffs. I’m a big fan of sweets.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Shanghai?

A: BaoYueLou — a dim-sum restaurant.

Q: Where is it located, and what’s in the area?

A: DaYueCheng mall, it is above lines 8/12 (metro).

Q: What is your go-to order?

A: We usually order 4 things: steamed rice and shrimp rolls , porridge , choy sum, and soup dumplings.

Q: How is the service? Is it comfortable for foreigners to communicate in English?

A: It is decent. They can manage, but no-one speaks English.

Q: How does the food here compare to those back at home?

A: Much more options compared to Ohio; the food is much better!
