2023 Spanish Field Trip: Fuimos a Experimentar La Cultura de México
For this year’s Spanish field trip, students were brought to an exhibition about Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist who lived through the World War 2 era. She is famous for incorporating elements of nature such as mountains, water fountains, and clouds in her paintings, as well as food and animals to represent people’s small- scale farming life of Mexican culture. The exhibition was meaningful and beautiful- a perfect place to investigate into Mexican art.
Time to Eat Lunch:
Next, students went to a restaurant named “Chihuahua” dedicated for Mexican food such as burritos and guacamole.
The food was also amazing too, students get to pick three choices (the beef/chicken/pork burritos) The burritos were very big and a delicious type of sauce came along for students to dip their burritos in. Burritos are also a symbol of Mexican culture
There is also another type of food called guacamole, it is a type of source with mashed tomato pieces, onions, and avocado in order to dip in chips.
The restaurant also gave us little treats that they made, those are for free. There are no pictures about them but they are rice puddings sprinkled with cinnamon on the top of it. It was a very tasty, sweet, and warm desert to try out
Mexico is not just famous for tacos and burritos although they seem to be the most well known, there is a variety of food that is worthy for people to try out such as guacamole (a paste of avocado, tomato, and onion) and quesadillas (a dish made of cheese and pasta layered on one another)
In sum, the gallery of Frida Kahlo is stunning, students were presented with a video of Frida Kahlo’s tragic life story. The graphics of the video were just beyond art, the animation of the video made students feel that they were in the shoes of Frida Kahlo. The graphics moved everywhere, to the ceiling, to the floor, to the altar in the middle. The interactiveness of the video attracted students the most that students couldn’t help but to take pictures to remember that moment of astonishment. Students took many pictures and hung out with their friends along the way, embracing Mexican culture.
