Winter Concert brings festive musical spirit

The Winter Concert hosted by Julianne Pan (12B) on December 21 concluded the fun and exciting week that was packed full with school-wide Christmas events. The annual concert lasted the entire afternoon, with participation from students from the middle and high school.

The lively concert began with the middle school’s Chamber Orchestra, performing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” and “Frosty the Snowman” for the audience to get in a festive, Christmas spirit. It was followed by several impressive instrumental pieces, and performances, such as a recreation of the infamous “Phantom of the Opera,” and talented singing of “Can’t Stop These Shoes” and “Rolling in the Deep.”

However, the musical play performed by the 7th grade students called the “A Christmas Carol” stole the spotlight for the evening. It consisted of three well-acted scenes “Scrooge,” “Scrooge Visited by Three Ghosts,” and “Scrooge Has Changed.” The audience gave the actors and actresses of ET7B and C a huge round of applause for their dedication and effort into their musical. The show ended with a musical performance by the Vocal Band– “Rewrite the Stars,” and the Chamber Group performed “Fur Elise” and “All I Want for Christmas is You.”

The festive atmosphere of the upcoming Christmas was complete with the supportive audience, as many parents, students, and teachers filled the seats of the artfully decorated auditorium. Mrs. Yanting Yang beamed as she reflected, “The rehearsal was great, the performances were also great, everything was great!” Ryan Au (12C) also added, “The first-floor auditorium was crowded the entire evening. I think everyone that attended really enjoyed this year’s concert.”

In the previous year, there was an issue regarding the screen. “The images were out of shape, only some of the background were okay to look at,” Kay Qu (CT11) remarked. “The screen made all the pictures and videos stretched. This year we fixed this problem. The videos and pictures were cropped to properly fit the screen. I’m really proud of that.”
