Thor: Ragnarok is one entertaining ride
Thor: Ragnarok is spectacular, starting with an opening where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) battles fire demons and new villain Hela terrifies with her “crown of shadows”. Everything feels like a particularly delirious and crazy roller coaster ride. However, many find it surprising that Thor has taken on a new perspective.
“The sudden shift from The Dark World to Ragnarok is kinda jarring and it kinda felt like they were just riding the success of the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy somehow worked out,” says Alexander Chu (10A).
Director Taika Waititi creates what critics claim to be the best Marvel movie ever. Thor: Ragnarok has energy and humor that cannot rival any other superhero film.
Several sites marveled the new movie and called it a resurrection for Thor; one article by Wired said: “Gone are the often morose ponderings on worthiness, replaced by a charm, wit, and warmth the previous films lacked. Better yet, it’s all backed up with imagery so colorful, imaginative, and psychedelic that it makes Guardians of the Galaxy look mundane.”
There are many new characters such as Hela (Cate Blanchett) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who are also going to be play big roles in the coming movies. Hela and her darkened powers proves truly horrifying; Cate Blanchett’s attire and makeup allow her to embrace Hela’s character. The character of Loki has also been revamped, he is more of a neutral and humorous character, which is refreshing to see after so many movies of Thor where he was evil.
“Honestly I think the story of the new Thor movie is not that interesting but I still recommend people to watch it ’cause Thor’s new hairstyle is super handsome,” says Ann Hsu(10A).
