Nowadays, numerous foreign artists present their exhibitions at museums located in Shanghai, and a lot of people visit them in order to see various pieces of artwork that contain interesting themes and underlying messages. The Yuz Museum, one of the most famous museums in Shanghai, is currently presenting “Nested” by Su-Mei Tse, whose first solo exhibition in China starts from December 18th, 2018 and ends on March 24th. This exhibition is organized by foreign curators in collaboration with the Yuz Museum Shanghai and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
Tse is a female artist who was born in 1973 in Luxemboug, and has won the Leono d’Oro award for her prominent artwork in the past few years. As an artist who is culturally connected to both Asia and Europe, Tse draws on her own experience about time, memory, musicality, and different languages to express her original ideas in her artwork. She uses several forms of art such as sculptures, videos, photographs, and installations to convey her messages about sound and image, nature and culture, mental space and sensory experiences. At the “Nested” exhibition, similar to how she puts musical elements in most of her previous art projects, Tse presents artwork that involve both music and installations to trigger the imagination of the viewers.

This exhibition is the “final result of several years of research in different geographical contexts, starting with Italy and Asia” that “brings together a large body of recent and new works, including a major installation produced locally in Shanghai, Stone Collection II,” said Tse.
While conducting research in different continents, Tse experienced numerous interesting events in her everyday life, and used visual, sound, or memory related factors to reflect those experiences in her artworks. In the exhibition, the visitors are able to directly feel her intense and fleeting experiences through by Tse’s masterpieces.
