The performers put a lot of effort into preparing for Shark Fiesta!

The audience cheered enthusiastically as students began their performances on the stage. Dance crews, magicians, and the students from the singing club demonstrated their talents in front of the audience. People started to sing along with the lyrics and even followed some dance moves. Some students shouted out names of the performers in loud voices to cheer for their friends. Yes, the performances prepared by the students were successful and everyone watching the show seemed to be satisfied with the performances. However, no one truly understands just how much effort is required of the performers in order to stand in front of a crowd on stage.

Olivia Lu (12C), who danced to the song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ with her dance crew, stated that they “started preparing the dance right around the time when the school started,” and Gina Bae (10C), who had sung a duet with her friend, also said that “it took me two weeks to prepare.” It is evident that in order to perform on the stage for about 3 to 4 minutes, the performers have to prepare for weeks to make their shows perfect.

While preparing, although most of the process went along smoothly, but there were times when the performers encountered small difficulties. “[We had to rearrange] the key for the song. The key to the original song was super low, so we had to make it higher. [Also], later on during the practice, we realized that we needed a guitarist so we had to quickly find a guitarist,” said Gina. Even though there were minor problems during the preparatory period, due to the students’ strenuous efforts, their performances at Shark Fiesta were amazing.

Many might question why the students want to perform when the process of preparing takes so much time and labor. “Because I love to dance and perform in front of people,” answered Sunny Han (12A). He continued to say that, “it felt amazing to be on the stage…” Olivia also said that, “it was one of the few opportunities to showcase our passion and interest in dancing.” Yes, the passion for the stage and their will to showcase their talent were the reasons why they have worked so hard to stand on the stage.

Please continue to support our performers in future events!
