The Pearl Art Museum presents Mucha’s solo exhibition
The Pearl Art Museum is a non-profit, non-governmental art museum established by Shanghai XinHua Distribution Group and Red Star Macalline Group Corporation Ltd that seeks opportunities to help global artists show their creative arts with various styles. They often collaborate with creative art institutions and operate exhibition programs to present artwork. Moreover, they also have their own art education program that provides training sessions and different activities for visitors who are interested in art. Currently, the Pearl Art Museum is displaying the solo exhibition of Alphonse Mucha from March 30th to July 21st.
Born in 1860 in the small Moravian town of Ivancice, Alphonse Mucha was one of the most well-known Czech artists who is famous for his creative works. With his wide range of artistic talents, Mucha was a painter, sculptor, photographer and designer during his lifetime. He rose to international fame through creating theatre posters, decorative panels and paintings. While painting posters with diverse themes, he discovered his own style of art, which is characterized by organic lines and a muted palette. Soon, this style started appearing in his other artwork.
The exhibition is divided into six sections that summarize his changes in artistic motives. The first section shows Mucha’s beginnings as a “bohemian,” an outsider of the French establishment, and the process that made him a extraordinary artist during that time. Most of the artwork displayed in this section feature examples of his early drawings. The second section presents Mucha’s approach to establishing his distinctive style of artwork by displaying examples of his advertising posters and decorative panels. The third and fourth section explore the ways that spiritualism and Masonic philosophy influenced his work. Additionally, the fourth section also shows his expressionistic pastel drawings. The fifth section concentrates on displaying Mucha’s artworks that convey nationalism and patriotism, and the sixth section portrays Mucha as a philosopher by showing works which express humanitarian concerns and response to threats of war. By looking through the art displayed in the six sections, visitors can understand the artistic motives and the changes of his style throughout Alphonse Mucha’s lifetime.
The Pearl Art Museum presents Mucha’s exhibition until late July. The opening time for the Pearl Art Museum is from every Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 19:00 and the street address of the museum is 8F, Aegean Shanghai, No. 1588, Wuzhong Road, Minhang District, Shanghai.
