STUCO unveils this year’s locker shop
With new changes in location, products, and advertising, the High School Student Council (STUCO)’s locker shop opened on October 16. Per STUCO’s election promise to reflect the student body’s interests, the locker shop products were selected from a user poll on STUCO’s WeChat account; the winners include some widespread favorites such as lemon tea and Vitasoy.
The location of the shop has been moved to the end of the locker room counter (or bar), and a poster displaying all the items and prices is now tacked to the adjacent wall. In addition to the two aforementioned snacks, new products like milk and chocolate mushrooms have been added to the shop’s inventory.
The locker shop’s function is essentially a way to raise funds for Student Council activities. In the words of STUCO President Raphael Lee (12B), “That’s how we pay for Winter Formal.” He went on to add, “But this year we want to earn more [to] do bigger activities second semester.”
“This year, we’re going to organize reps so it’ll be more orderly,” Raphael said, “[because] it’s pretty much a team thing.”
Some commenters on STUCO’s WeChat poll suggested fruits, vegetables, and other healthier foods as possible additions. “Since there are already several crispy snack choices such as Snyders and cheese crackers, I thought the locker shop should also include other types of snacks for students to choose from,” said Sophia Sze (12A), who made one such suggestion in the poll. She went on to mention that these snacks might be an important supplement, or occasional substitute, for the cafeteria.
According to STUCO officers, some of the new options were chosen to better reflect the ESLR – Healthy Individuals. Items such as milk were added so that students who skip breakfast in the morning can be provided a healthy food to start the day. In addition, items like Vitasoy are being sold so that students can find their favorite drink in the most convenient area.
The locker shop will be open during lunchtimes.
it would be better for you guys (STUCO) to print the qr code and paste it on the wall or something. Trying to scan someone’s phone while having a crowd next to it is quite difficult.
Awesome idea! The STUCO historians have actually already designed a nice poster with the price list and a QR payment code poster!
