From October 29 to November 3, Student Council held middle-high school’s annual spirit week, encouraging all students and faculty to dress up creatively and boost their school spirit.

Monday = Spirit Day

Students showed up in sharks gear or the SMIC-I colors of blue, black, and white. A positivity wall was set up near the locker area. Students expressed their love for the school through personalized, colorful messages on posted notes posted on the wall. It was quite heartwarming to learn about the students’ different sentiments.

Tuesday = Twin Day

Twin day, a long standing tradition during Spirit Week, was one of the best opportunities for friends to showcase the strength of their bond by dressing like each other! There were quite noteworthy attempts this year, such as the multicolored set of Teletubbies Twins.

Wednesday = Halloween Day

Arguably, this was the most fun and creative day of the week. Both students and teachers experimented with makeup and all sorts of costumes, striving to be their favorite character or to appear artistically spooky and ghoulish. Pre-ordered Halloween Grams were delivered during homeroom, adding to the festive and “trick or treat” spirit unique to this day.

Not to mention, the Anime, Comic, and Gaming Club held their first Halloween cosplay dance during morning recess at the high school locker area this year. It was quite entertaining and refreshing to watch the five dancers in cosplay costumes moving to the music. According to Kevin Zhou (12C), president of the club, “The characters were Kiki the Witch, Mercenary and Jack the Ripper from the game Identity V, Kukichi Rukia from Bleach, Eddie the Jack ‘o Lantern, and No-face from Spirited Away.” “I think our club members worked very hard to get the performance done well,” Kevin noted with feeling, “ It was our first time performing as a club and, along with the costumes, which made dancing difficult, we had a lot of fun and the result was great!”

Thursday = Mismatch Day

This day was indeed the time for students and teachers to challenge their dress sense by purposely wearing an unusual combination of apparel!

Friday = Baggy Day

Tired of wearing the usual skinny jeans? No worries! On this day many joined the baggy clothing party! Although for most, it won’t be as literal…

Saturday = Pajamas Day

Aligning with the relaxing Saturday weekend atmosphere, students came to school in their comfy, fluffy pajamas.
