Singing Club Moves Hearts at Orphanage
“You carry us, carry us, When the world gives away…”
The children listened attentively as Luke Chong (11A) performed the song, “Relentless”, for them. Just a couple days after performing at an elderly home, the Singing Club gathered their instruments and made their way to a local orphanage (who wished to remain anonymous) on Thursday, November 21st.
Despite the long distance from their homes and the difficulty in transporting heavy instruments, the club did not see it as a burden and was more than excited to sing for children at the orphanage. “Charities are great for helping children that do not receive as much attention as us,” expressed Michelle Chang (9B), a member of the club. “Just bringing something as simple as [a] song can make their day.” From Charlie Puth’s R&B song “Some Type of Love” to the Chainsmokers’ electronic pop song “Something Just Like This,” the singers captured the hearts of the children with a wide variety of songs. “The event was a wonderful way to reach out to the young kids in the orphanage and to show our love to them,” Luke shared.
“[The orphanage] is secluded in a very small alleyway, but [it is] very welcoming and the kids were very nice,” commented Rene Van Steenbergen (12A), the President of the Singing Club. While Singing Club performed, the kids sang and danced merrily along with the music, impressing their visitors. “They were so cute, singing and dancing around,” said Rene.
Singing Club’s trips to the elderly home and the orphanage were both successful in using their talent to share love and be charitable to others. The club is practicing for more performances that are coming up soon. Next time, go watch and support them, or even prepare a performance of your own! Singing Club meets on Mondays afterschool in the music room.
