Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s’ Uprunning Court Battle
Johnny Depp; A well-known actor, producer, and musician which is also regarded as one of the most notable film stars.
Amber Heard; A known American actress which is mostly known for her role in the recent 2018 film “Aquaman.”
The two originally met on the set of “The Rum Diary” in 2009 where they played each others love interests. In 2010, Heard, who was originally in a relationship with artist Tasya Van Ree, publicly comes out as bisexual. Two years later, Depp split with his partner of 14 years, French actress Vanessa Paradis. In 2013, Depp and Heard were seen together during the promotion of Depp’s movie “The Lone Ranger,” and in April 2014, Depp announced that he and Heard were officially engaged and even called her “Sweet as can be and very good for me.” Fast forward to 2020, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard both continued to battle a lawsuit against each other claiming that on one side, Depp abused Amber, and on the other, Amber abused Depp. Here is a timeline on what had happened for the both of them since the divorce was settled.
On May 23, 2016, Amber Heard decided to file for divorce from Depp and even obtained a restraining order against him. Amber alleged that Depp had physically, emotionally, psychologically, and in many other forms abused her usually under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Depp had previously owned up to his previous habit of the usage of various drug substances and tried to maintain clean during their marriage however, Heard struggled to rid of her own habits. It was said by Depp that she would indulge in “two or three bottles” of wine a night and that the alcohol and drug use resulted in “severe outbursts of rage and anger.” Heard had also mentioned that in terms of physical abuse, when they were filing for divorce, an incident took place where Depp threw her phone at her “As if he was a baseball pitcher,” which left her with a bruised face, however, a police spokesman told “People” that an investigation found that no crime had taken place. Depp slammed Heard’s accusations saying that her bruises were “painted on.”
While visiting Depp in Australia in March 2015, Heard exclaimed to the press that she had endured severe acts of violence by her former husband, Depp. “It is the worst thing I have ever been through. I was left with an injured lip and nose, and cuts on my arms,” Heard remarked while also describing how she found pieces of raw meat in her clothes. “There were pieces of it wrapped round something and I realized it was the steak I had planned to cook. … He had also gone around and painted on all my clothes in the closet.”
“He demeaned me anytime I tried to wear anything that can be seen as sexy, calling me a ‘…..,’ ‘….,’ ‘fame-hungry’ and ‘an attention …..,’ it got worse over time. He started saying things like, ‘Well I’m going to have to watch you get …..’ And ‘I hope you get railed by a bunch of …… fellas.’ It is even alleged by Heard that Depp would use racial epithets about the men Heard would be — or deserved to be — assaulted by. “He accused me of having affairs with each of my costars, movie after movie…” Heard even alleged in court that some incidents were so severe that Heard was afraid of Depp killing her either intentionally of just by loosing control and taking it too far. “ He explicitly threatened to kill me many times, especially later in our relationship.” Heard also said that Depp would resort to him “punching, slapping, kicking, head-butting and choking me, as well as throwing me into things, pulling me by my hair and shoving me or pushing me to the ground” when they fought.
“She hit, punched, and kicked me. She also repeatedly and frequently threw objects into my body and head, including heavy bottles, soda cans, burning candles, television remote controls, and paint thinner cans, which severely injured me.” Depp claimed this in court documents related to a lawsuit from May 2019.
In 2020, phone recordings were released in which Heard admitted to hitting Depp. The actress told Depp to “grow the …. up” after she allegedly punched him. “I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you. I can’t promise you I won’t get physical again,” she said in the recording, part of which was played in court in July 2020. “God, I ……. sometimes get so mad, I lose it. … You can still call me names. You’re a hypocrite, you’re a baby. If they give a taste of it to you, you ……. lose it, but yet you dish it out.”
Depp sued “The Sun” newspaper for libel or an April 2018 story citing that Depp was a ‘wife beater,’ and also stated that he assaulted his ex-wife, in which Depp denied. Depp soon lost his libel case against “The Sun” with the newspaper website stating that the article was correct. The judge ordered Depp to make an initial payment of $841,773 to News Group Newspapers, publisher of “The Sun” newspaper, in order to cover its legal fees.
As more allegations against Depp had arisen, Depp’s former partners Winona Ryder; well known actress which starred in the 2018 Netflix series “Stranger Things” and Vanessa Paradis; whom shares two children Lily-Rose Depp and John Christopher with Depp. “The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head round these accusations. He was never, never, violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have ever seen,” said Winona Ryder during her statement in July 2020. “Through all these years I’ve known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous, and non-violent person and father. On movie sets the actors, directors, and entire crews adore him because he is humble and respectful to everyone, as well as being one of the best actors we’ve seen, said Vanessa Paradis.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continue to battle the lawsuit against each other in hopes that one side wins. Depp was recently asked to resign of his position in the upcoming movie “Fantastic Beasts 3,” and currently, a petition that has been signed by over one million people wishing that Heard be removed from the upcoming “Aquaman 2” movie continues to uprise.
