In the book Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari, the author claims that there will be different problems on the top of the Human Agenda in the future. Currently, war, famine, and epidemic diseases are at the top of the agenda, but Harari is claiming that these three problems are disappearing from the modern world.
In history, millions of people die from war, famine, and plagues. Humans spend their time to prevent these three problems from harming the human race. But now in the modern world, war, famine, and plague don’t seem to bother humans that much. More people commit suicide than be killed by soldiers, terrorists, and criminals. More people die from obesity than from starvation or famine. Doctors have the technology to cure diseases, and they are onto the next step to immortality.
As the three problems that preoccupied humans in history are coming under control, Harari claims that there will be three new problems that will replace them on the top of the Human Agenda: immortality, happiness, and divinity.
As humans develop in the future, Homo sapiens will be upgraded to Homo Deus. Technology will be improving every year and humans will likely upgrade to superhuman in the future and get closer and closer to god. Humans will work to pursuit immortality, happiness, and divinity as new challenges arise.
Humans will use the new technology to enhance themselves and perhaps even replace what they believe is God. In the past, whenever there is a plague or disease, people pray to God and believe that the disease happens for a reason and it is sent by God. But in the modern world, humans have the technology to overcome these challenges and they no longer pray to god. Technology now replaced many prayer to God and humans can solve the problems with technology themselves. Harari predicts that over time, as human develop further, Homo sapiens can replace many things that what God is now. In the past, plastic surgery was used to fix the faces of soldiers that were deformed in war. But now, plastic surgery is used to enhance normal people to make them look better. With this, Harari predicted that many technologies used now to heal people might be used to enhance people in the future.
