“Earth” calls for awareness about global warming

To readress global warming, rapper Lil Dicky released his latest hit song called “Earth.” The song attempts to emphasize the beauty of the Earth and that peoples’ ignorance are destroying it. The song didn’t blow up because of the message itself, but because of the enormous featuring cast brought in by Lil Dicky. Featuring artists included Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Psy, and even Leonardo Dicaprio. All of the artists took in the form of an animal in an attempt to remind listeners the other living inhabitants of planet Earth. This video, did though, help rekindle the conversation of global warming.

It’s an exaggeration to say that people don’t think global warming is a problem and that humans are the primary cause. The same people, however, are not willing to spend much effort in solving this global problem. We know global warming is a serious problem on the back of our minds, yet we blast our air conditioning systems and, in return, warm our planet.

Along with climate change comes more frequent and serious natural consequences such as drought, rising sea levels, storms, and more. These natural consequences and disasters indirectly and directly harm people, but most importantly other animals living on Earth. The main impact of global warming on animals are shown when animals are forced to relocate due to the destruction of their previous habitats. Rising temperatures lead to melting glaciers, which in turn leads to a rising sea level. The melting of ice and rising sea level are forcing arctic life such as polar bears to relocate as they have no where to live. Climate change also has an impact on turtle nesting sites off the coast of Africa. Rising temperatures alters sand temperatures, which then affects the sex of hatchlings.

Though this topic has been addressed constantly, people do not act upon this situation. The suffering of animals have led to the extinction and endangerment of several animal species. Their protection has to be addressed. If not for the animals, we must at least act upon this global crisis for ourselves. When global warming is finished with the animals, us humans are the next target.
