Cirque Du Soleil’s KOOZA arrives in typical style

Cirque Du Soleil, the largest theatrical producer in the world, is coming to Shanghai with Koozå, a touring circus. Cirque Du Soleil, meaning “The Circus of the Sun”, was founded in 1984 by street performers, Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix.

Today, Cirque Du Soleil employs approximately 4,000 people from over 40 countries. The company generates annual revenue of about 800 million dollars and has received several awards for their productions, namely four Primetime Emmy Awards and three Gemini Awards; in 2013, they even received a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Each show has a different storyline and theme, and all the shows are a mix of circus styles from around the world.

The circus was previously touring Australia and now has very high hopes for Shanghai. The circus is said to have the finest acrobats and funambulists from around the world, who perform typical circus acts such as contortion and acrobatics. “In Cirque Du Soleil, you’re putting together some of the greatest dancers and performers all in one group, so it is this incredible…the outcome is perfect,” commented Coach Brian Bates, recommending Cirque Du Soleil for everyone. The two-and-a-half-hour long circus ends with a spectacular performance called the ‘Wheel of Death,’ which has left audiences around the world in awe. “You get so jittery when they’re performing; you want to tell them to stop because you feel like they’re going to hurt themselves doing tricks,” said Isaac Ma (9B).  However, the silly clowns dressed in striped jumpsuits and funny hats, balance out the deadly tricks performed by the acrobats.

The Shanghai show will be playing from the 1st of October to the 3rd of December near the China Art Museum.  Ticket sales have already begun and the price varies from 380 RMB to 1980 RMB based on seating.
