Christmas Performances fill the lobby with holiday cheer

If you walked past the lobby during the week of Christmas, you would have seen a festive set-up of instruments and plants at the center of the space. This area served as the “stage” for many of SMIC-I’s talented students. From Wednesday through Friday of last week, the MHS lobby hosted several Christmas themed performances, with everything from Singing Club to the MHS Chamber to even teacher performances. In a time like this, the performances greatly boosted the holiday spirit around school, bringing everyone together through a captivating activity.

On Wednesday, 10 members of Singing Club performed in front of a middle-high school audience during lunch break, singing traditional Christmas songs such as “Silent Night” and “Last Christmas.” They also introduced a couple of newer songs such as “You Make Winter Warm”, performed by Art and Wesley. The performances garnered good feedback, as the audience engaged in the performance by singing along and clapping. Even when the group encountered technical difficulties, they still carried on to the best of their abilities. “It was amazing even though the mic broke,” commented Singing Club member Stanley Chang (11C).

The next day, the chamber, led by Mrs. Jeannie, delivered a festive performance with beautifully synchronized songs. The more traditional songs made whole with various types of instruments delivered by the choir sparked a common feeling of the holiday season for the audience.

On the last day of the school week, teachers from all departments came together and sang for the school body in the spirit of Christmas. This performance was, of course, an attraction for the student body who generally see teachers donning a more serious demeanor.

Thanks to these holiday performances and other activities during this eventful month, we are able to look back on the holiday season as a successful, community-oriented time in which the school came together to share in the Christmas spirit.
