Children rock Harvest Day in their cute costumes
Kindergarten grades EP2, K1, and K2 had their annual Harvest Day Open House on Friday, October 26th! EP2 (3-4-year-olds) children were dressed up as fruit, K1 (4-5-year-olds) were dressed up as bugs, and finally, K2 (5-6-year-olds) were dressed as farm animals.
When asked about the origins of Harvest Day, Ms. Kimber Gardner said, “Harvest day [is] usually in the month of October and very close to Halloween. We chose to call it Harvest Day because Halloween sometimes is a little scary for kids. We wanted the kids to feel safe and comfortable so we chose to go with a general theme of harvest but still allow them to dress up.”
The event is called “Open House” because parents are allowed to come on school grounds and accompany their children while the kids are doing activities.
Mr. Kot Seen explained, “Our Harvest Day begins outside with three group songs related to our harvest theme: ‘Picking Apples‘, ‘I Love Bugs‘, and ‘Old MacDonald‘. We’ve practiced the dances in English class leading up to Harvest Day. After that, we have classes rotate through different outside games like mini-golf, egg relay race, corn hole, and an obstacle course. Inside, we have harvest-themed activities like pumpkin crafts or carving pumpkins during our English class time.”
Once the kids finish their activities and games outside, group photos are taken with parents and teachers who are also dressed up in cute costumes. It’s a fun time for parents and teachers to get together and talk.
Come over to the elementary school next year to see a fun, exciting, and cute parade!
