Varsity boys dominate game against Concordia

On Tuesday, March 27, 2018, groups of students and teachers gathered around the field, waiting for the Boys Varsity soccer game against Concordia (CISS) to begin. After both teams warmed up, the game started. All students cheered for the SMIC-I boys soccer team, who have proven to us their ability on their home field.

“This was a dream game for a coach,” said Coach Patrick Doverspike. Our team won the game by 3-1 against Concordia. “It feels great. This is the first time I have won against Concordia in my 3-year experience in varsity soccer,” stated Inque Park (11B). Just like this, the team had given their best performance since the tournament last year. The boys played the formation almost perfectly, and communication and intensity during the game was high. While the members showed supportive teamwork, they also were able to show their individual abilities throughout the game.

The first goal of the game was scored by Joseph Kim, the co-leader of the team. After celebrating their first goal for just a moment, the players immediately continued to concentrate on the game, without getting too excited. As the game continued and tensions rose between the two teams, Jason Kim (12A) kicked the ball high and far to Joseph, who slammed it in for another goal. A few minutes later, the first half of the game ended. While the boys were having a short rest, they talked about their defense and formation. As the second half of the game started, Concordia scored one goal against SMIC-I. However, right after Concordia’s goal, Joseph Kim got his hat trick with great assistance from other SMIC-I members. Although there were some moments when our team almost conceded goals to Concordia, with great defense, the boys were able to finish the game strong and maintain the score.

“It was our home game, and thankfully, lots of people came out to watch today. Their cheering and support helped us to stay strong mentally,” asserted Inque Park (11B). Because it is always great to have someone on your side to cheer for you, if any students are interested in Boys Varsity Soccer games, please go and cheer for them.
