Blackpink makes their comeback with a mini album, Kill This Love
Blackpink, the first and only K-pop girl band to enter Billboard’s “Emerging Artists” chart, made their long awaited comeback on April 4 with their new mini album Kill This Love. The newly released album consists of five songs—“Kill This Love,” “Don’t Know What to Do,” “Kick It,” “Hope Not,” and lastly the widely loved song “Ddu-du Ddu-du”’s remix track.
The music video of the leading single “Kill This Love” received ten million views in four hours and over fifty million views within twenty-four hours after its release on YouTube. The song broke the record of highest number of views in the entire history of K-pop. The video stayed in the number one trending spot for a long time. Although the group has not received any awards from the music industry, fans believe that that day will come in the future.
The style of Blackpink’s album Kill This Love is closely connected to their last album Square Up, which was a huge success: the album‘s sales went over 102,001 one week after its release. The reason that Square Up is so popular is because of its leading single “Ddu-du Ddu-du,” which is a favorite with K-pop fans with its powerful rhythm. Because more people prefer Blackpink to deliver bolder music, the group responded with Kill This Love. YG Entertainment informed people that the album will demonstrate a more intense atmosphere, both musically and visually.
Blackpink debuted in 2016 with powerful songs like “Boombayah.” As the first girl band that debuted under YG Entertainment, BlackPink shares several characteristics with 2NE1. The concept of the group is to embrace both black and pink. The members Jennie and Lisa represent the color black, while Jisoo and Rose represent the color pink. The first impression the group gives their fans is as “cool girls,” but as time passes, people will encounter the “cute” side of the girls as well. In their newest album Kill This Love, Blackpink accurately demonstrates the concept of the group. The song “Kill This Love” presents audiences with a bold style for the color black, while “Don’t Know What to Do” emphasizes the charming sides of the members.
