A much anticipated spirit week ends shark-tastically
As the month of October started winding down, students had assignments piled up in their agenda. Students were cramming for projects at the very last minute, and studying for midterms that were just around the corner. Nevertheless, many students still looked forward to the annual Spirit week held from October 28, 2019, all the way to November 2, 2019. Some students looked at this particular event as a fun week to relax before the midterms. However, others thought it just pressured them even more because they had to deal with the issue of finding the perfect outfit to wear for each day in hopes of winning the tempting prize which was 10% off Winter Formal tickets for the entire class.

Spirit week started off with Shark Spirit Day, where students were allowed to wear anything relating to the school, such as the school uniform, blue colored clothing, or anything that just screamed “Shark!” in general. On this day, shark spirit was radiating from the entire student body, meeting the expectations of this day above and beyond.

Moving onto the second day of Spirit Week, Twin Day, the hallways were filled with identical-looking students. Just like past years, Twin Day seemed to be one of the preferred days of Spirit Week, since you could just twin with someone by wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans, and count as a participant. Watching students and teachers dress up as one another was an enjoyable scene that entertained quite a number of people. In multiple cases, a few students grouped up with more students to create triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, or even more!

On the third day of Spirit Week, Mismatched Day, students showed up in school wearing different colored socks and incompatible pairs of shoes. Many students decided to wear sandals on one foot and sneakers on the other, while others came to school wearing a suit and tie over a regular T-shirt. The possibilities were endless, and students were surely able to create bizarre combinations when it came to Mismatched Day.

Thursday was yet another exciting day of Spirit Week because it was finally Halloween! A plethora of students dressed up as blood-curdling characters from their favourite horror movies. Other students decided to skip out on the scary part and help lighten the fearful atmosphere by dressing up in lovable costumes that radiated nothing but happiness. Quite a number of students went as far as caking their faces with heavy face paint and makeup just to nail the perfect gory and chilling look. On this day, the air was filled with both a scary and amusing atmosphere, creating the ideal ambience for Halloween.
The next day, Bright Color Day, was a fun way to lift up the spirits of students. Not everyone was able to participate on this day because for some people, every piece of clothing they owned was too drab. However, the people who did participate could be seen from a mile away in their vivid, neon pieces of clothing. A few people were shocked to find a friend of theirs wearing something bright for a change. Although the idea that black is the perfect color because it’s simple yet chic, a little brightness in your life never hurt anybody.

Usually, Spirit Week would have lasted for only five days, but this year it was an exception. Due to the sudden change in schedule, STUCO decided to create Comfy Day on Saturday, to match the students’ expectations of a lazy weekend. This day managed to save people some time in the morning, since they didn’t have to spend five to ten minutes looking for an outfit in the morning when they could just walk to school in their pajamas. The purpose of this day was just to be as comfortable as possible, and some people achieved this goal by bringing their own stuffed animals and eyeshades to nap with during school. This day was definitely one of the comfiest and laziest school days ever experienced!
The Spirit Week of 2019-2020 was an amazing week—being surrounded by people in strange and humorous outfits was a stress reliever for many students for the upcoming midterms!
