Media Arts students offer meaningful glimpse into their lives
“I chose these pictures because I think I’m dealing with quite a lot of stress that [shows] I’m breaking into pieces. It felt like someone punched my head and my head just broke into pieces and [I] decided to stop thinking.” –Katherine Liu (10A) (featured above).
Project description: The Media Arts students created a double exposure self-portrait to reveal an aspect of their personality or identity that cannot be seen in their appearance. Students learned about studio and natural lighting, portraiture, and advanced Photoshop techniques in order to create this work of art. –Ms. Ashley Hayes
“The image that I chose for my double exposure is the picture that I took [at] Ultra (DJ festival held in Shanghai). This [picture] symbolizes my feeling right now. For me, right now is the most stressful time in my school life because I have to focus on my school works, and also I have to prepare the college app so I’m [truly] missing the time that I played and danced in the concert without any concerns and problems.”
“Technology and color-distorted images are two of my unusual tastes. I wanted to convey these two elements through my double exposure project…Although it may seem rather random, there is a message in this [picture].”
“This work of mine expresses another side of who I am. I found a picture of mist in the woods that emphasizes the mystery within nature, and I like exploring the mysteries of nature and [being] human.”
“This photo represents [the] gloom and sadness in life. A bad day in the rain may happen to anyone in their lives, and this photo helps show that feeling.”
“Through my [project], I mainly wanted myself to look like I am pondering or worrying about some situation. I made my facial expression look solemn and grave…and used a picture of the mountains covered with ice to…symbolize the depth of [my] thoughts…”
