What’s Shanghai’s Culinary Scene Like?
Ms. Tina Yeo is a high school counselor and teacher of AP Psychology at SMIC-I. She is from Singapore and has been teaching at SMIC for more than 7 years. Today, she is here to share with us some of her eating habits and talk about some of her favorite foods and how food affects her life.
When Daisy asked Ms. Tina about any hidden gem restaurants or eateries in Shanghai that she’d be willing to share with us, she mentioned a Singaporean restaurant in Puxi. The restaurant is called 钨节路新加坡餐厅。

Q: What is your favorite food, and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: I usually enjoy Korean food, Japanese food, and pizza. I like chow mein from Korean restaurants the most.
Q: Can you share a memorable dining experience you’ve had in Shanghai? What made it special?
A: I remember eating crab roe noodles in Shanghai. It was very delicious, and there were a lot of crab roes in the noodle.
Q: What Chinese food do you usually eat?
A: Well, since I can cook Chinese food, I don’t really go to restaurants. I prefer Korean food, like japchae, gimbap, Korean samgye soup, etc.
In the end, Ms. Tina pointed out that Chinese food culture is very diverse. We can find many different restaurants here in Shanghai, but they may not be very authentic. She suggested that we should try to find the restaurants whose owners are local to get authentic food. In general, she believed Chinese food is too oily for her.
